The star was presented with the prize on mid-October as his third album his work was chosen as the top album of the past year.

The musician has decided to hand the money over to the Music Venues Trust, in appreciation of the crucial part grassroots venues played in his initial steps.

"As an artist would not have achieved this success if it weren't for all the gigs I performed around the North East, and further afield, when I was starting out," remarked the artist. "These spaces are iconic, but they are struggling."

Beginning in 2023, more than 150 of these spaces have ceased operations – approximately one-sixth of the whole industry in the UK.

Other venues obtained financial assistance in upgrading facilities and technical equipment that helped musicians and fans.

"The notion that revenue from concerts in large arenas supports the smaller venues, where it kicks off for artists like me, is just sensible," Fender has said.

And winners that year M People donated their award to a charity for MS after a close contact was identified with the condition.

"The victory was quite enough," said singer the singer. "The cash was the bonus but we didn't need the cherry, because we had the honor. So our victory affected the lives of others."

Recently, the Music Venues Trust announced it had rescued two small stages in the South East, by bringing them into public stewardship.

The first in Southampton and The Croft in Bristol were purchased under the Own Our Venues scheme, which is backed by the arts council and supporters who purchase "stakes" in the buildings.
